Monitor Recycling Service

Monitor Recycling Service

Our Monitor recycling service covers the collection and recycling of all types of monitors. Many of the dangerous chemicals we want to eliminate from electronic products are found in very small amounts. However, there’s one toxic substance still prevalent in households in the UK: cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays. A typical CRT contains approximately 1.36 kg of lead. CRT monitors are listed under the Environment Agency as hazardous waste, and it is illegal for organizations to simply dispose of them in a skip at the end of life. CRT monitor recycling is an important factor in combating soaring levels of e-waste found in landfills.

CRT Monitor Recycling

Recycling CRT monitors helps prevent unwanted hazardous WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) waste from leaking into the environment. Proper recycling is essential to avoid pollution and safeguard the planet.

TFT LCD Monitor Recycling

As of April 2010, the Environment Agency has reclassified TFT and LCD monitors, including laptop screens, as hazardous waste. Flat-screen recycling is as important as CRT disposal and recycling because materials such as arsenic and mercury are used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Arsenic is added to the high-performance glass in LCDs to prevent defects, and the fluorescent lamps used to illuminate LCDs contain minute amounts of mercury.

Recycling LCD Monitors

Almost 98% of an LCD monitor can be recycled. All plastics are removed and recycled into new products. Printed circuit boards can be recovered from LCD recycling and smelted to recover valuable metals, while cabling is stripped to reclaim copper and other metals. Newer flat-panel monitors are increasingly adopting LED technology for illumination, reducing the need for traditional LCD displays.
